BARRIERE HOTEL MAJESTIC CANNES

BARRIERE HOTEL THE MAJESTIC CANNES

Here on The Charles Diaries, I want to talk about my fabulous weekend in Cannes with the Hotel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes. Located on the Croisette, facing the Palais des Festivals and Congresses, our stay was organized by the agency “C Pas De La Com” (small shout out to the team).

The hotel is located near the old harbor. The hotel moto is “Magic & Majesty” and it lives up to its motto. Five-star and absolutely magnificent, this hotel is the premier hotel in Cannes and a MUST for your next trip to Southern France. The Barrière brand, one of the most well-known hotel chains in France, has several properties including Deauville, in Normandy (opened in 1912 and the first hotel of the Barrière group), in Paris (opened in 1997), in Marrakech (opened in 2009), in Courchevel in Auvergne – in the Rhône Alpes (opened in 2016), in Dinard, in Brittany, St Barth and many others. Each hotel is equally stunning and I would love to visit all of them. The Majestic Cannes is an exceptional experience, ideal for a weekend with family, friends or a romantic getaway in any season. Pleasant and warm moments are shared throughout hotel. The hotel features several activities including sports, culinary, relaxation and wellness.

Get Away in Cannes

It was not my first time in Cannes, all throughout my childhood I would visit Côte d’Azur. However, staying in a prestigious hotel like this was unexpected. The southern hospitality is unwavering and I love it. The staff is very attentive, cheerful, and friendly. The service, faultless. From the moment you walk in the door, you feel like a VIP. We arrived at The Majestic Hotel in Cannes on Friday morning, it was time for the “Check in“. We were escorted to our room, only to discovery our superior suites with breathtaking view of the azure sea. The suites and accompanying superior rooms ranged in size from 28 to 50m2. The suite comes equipped with a high-speed internet access, a safe, iron and ironing board, flat-screen TV, coffee machine, desk, air conditioning, a king size bed, spacious living room, premium bathroom, wonderful shower, and a toilet with marble walls. It is uncluttered and recently renovated. The room colors vary depending on the rooms and suites. My suite was adorned in shades of beige, brown, white, black and a hint of gray. A tranquil escape, while simultaneously feeling like home. The Majestic has 349 refined, modern, luxurious rooms with unparalleled service. There are two beautiful Penthouses with spectacular views of the Croisette.

What to do at Majestic Cannes? Well, believe me, there is so many things to do! We had access to a fitness room, the outdoor pool, the Majestic’s private beach, the Diane Cinematheque, the Diane Barrier Spa. In 3 words: elegance, comfort and originality perfectly sums up the Majestic.

Why the name Majestic? Barrière who? For history buffs, get ready! This hotel was opened in 1926 by the family of Ardèche Barriere, which quickly became a group and a brand. The hotel in Cannes is not the family’s first venture in hotels, nor will it be the last. The first hotel, “Le Normandy”, was opened in Deauville in 1912 by François André, the founder and a French economic figure. Upon his death, the family inherited the company and the brand continued to grow under the leadership of Lucien Barrière, Diane Barrière Desseigne and her husband Dominique Desseigne. Desseigne is the current President and CEO of the Lucien Barrière Group, and President of the Casino Municipal de Cannes. The luxury brand has continued to grow and evolve. Today, there are 18 hotels and 34 Barriere Casinos located in France and Europe. Check out the map below.

From French Riviera to Dior House passing by Majestic

During our stay, we had the privilege to visit three of the hotel’s imperial suites. All of which are spectacular and subline. Not for the average leisure traveler, these suites sell for thousands of euros per night and are regularly occupied by millionaires, journalists, celebrities, emblematic figures of fashion, the press or cinema.

First the RIVIERA suite, Raising the anchor! Ideal for a weekend in Cannes. A spacious, warm suite with a beautiful living space, two beautiful rooms with adjoining bathrooms. Each bathroom has a soaking tub and premium shower. In two words: timeless chic. The room is accented with mahogany, navy blue and gold. This suite makes me want to escape to sea. The symbolism of luxury at sea is interpreted by the famous French interior designed, Chantal Peyrat. The suite of 180m2 with a large terrace makes us want to sail away.

Price: From 17 000 € per night

The DIOR suite, J’adore Dior! Inspired by 30 Avenue Montaigne and the designer Christian Dior. As you can see, the Majestic Hotel has found inspiration in the famous Paris fashion house, Dior. Conceptualized by the talented Nathalie Ryan, a decorator attracted by the house Dior, you will find real harmony between the Barrière spirit and Parisian chic. An extravagant and elegant suite that perfectly symbolizes life in France. The suite is 450m2 with a 180-degree panoramic terrace, facing the Mediterranean and Cannes Croisette. The classic gray, cream and brown colors blend perfectly with the accents of pale pink, purple and red. Every detail of the suite is meticulously cared for; fabulous dining room, baroque chairs, butlers available, a round table and parquet floors reminiscent of Louis XVI. A private collection of portraits featuring Cotillard, Charlize Theron or Grace Kelly are hung around the suite. The Dior suite offers a touch of modernity, equipped with a home theater system, built-in overhead projector and giant screen of 3 meters by 2 meters.

Price: From 25 000 € per night

Finally, the MAJESTIC suite, ladies and gentlemen, his majesty! The ultimate in refinement, envisioned by the French architect Pascal Desprez. On the top floor of the right wing, the largest suite of the hotel (the most expensive in Europe) and so far my favorite. With a total area of 600m2, the suite has 450m2 of living space with a bonus of 150m2 private terrace with a your own private swimming pool. I will say this is a spectacular view of the Palais des Festivals and Congresses. In the distance you can see the islands of Lérins and L’Estérel. This is an exceptional suite consisting of a home cinema, a large dressing room, a gym, the sumptuous white oak dining room with a black lacquered table, and a personal butler. Elegance and comfort assured. It is regularly privatized for the legendary event “The Cannes Film Festival”.

Price: From 42 000 € per night.

Note: Let’s be clear, this is a 5 star hotel! But, there’s suites available for all budgets. I invite you to look at the website for a possible reservation.

“Flatter the Sea and stay on the ground”

During the stay, I discovered several delicious restaurants: Fouquet’s Cannes, Nicole’s Little House and Barrière Beach Majestic Cannes where I had all my meals. For those who follow me on social networks, check out these restaurants, they are great! I’ll tell you more about it in the “Where to eat” section.

Returning to the hotel, The Majestic had many great activities for all types of travelers. First, the outdoor pool heated to 27 degrees all year long. The gym, facing the sea, would inspire anyone to “get fit”. The Diane Barrière spa is fabulous, a great place to relax, unwind and indulge in a massage or other spa treatment. The Cinémathèque Diane is a DVD library available to lend itself to a quiet night in the room. If you want to go out in Cannes, the Barriere casinos (the princes and the Croisette) are perfect. The ideal place to play table games and slot machines. For those who love shopping, there are shops around the hotel. You will find the big stores located nearby. Let yourself succumb to temptation.

Sunday came all too fast and the weekend is almost over. I proceed to my “Check Out” and it is time for me to leave the Cote D’azur. What I will remember from this stay, in a word: Grandiose. I was able to make beautiful encounters, have a fabulous experience with exceptional service. I will miss Cannes and the beautiful Majestic Hotel but I plan to return again. I hope this makes you want to come to Cannes. Need some information? Questions I can answer?
